Branding That Moves – Visual Identity for a Growing Dance School.
The Dance Studio is a thriving dance school based in Fife, Scotland, offering classes in ballet, contemporary, street, and commercial dance for children and young adults. When the studio first opened, I was commissioned to create its visual identity — a brand that would feel stylish and expressive, while appealing to both young dancers and their families.
Since launching, the business has grown from a single location to three studios, with the original branding still proudly in use across signage, uniforms, and digital platforms.
As the lead designer on this project, I created a logo and brand identity that captured the energy, motion, and confidence of modern dance. Drawing inspiration from high-profile fashion branding such as Beyoncé’s Ivy Park, I blended contemporary aesthetics with a more fluid and expressive touch.
Key contributions:
Logo design — Developed a custom wordmark using a cursive script, symbolising movement, flow, and creativity – qualities that align with the school’s ethos and dance styles.
Typography & colour direction — Balanced boldness and elegance to appeal to a youth market while maintaining a sense of professionalism/
Versatile brand application — Created scalable assets for signage, social media, dancewear, printed materials, and future expansion.
Brand consistency across growth — The branding has remained in use through the business’s expansion from one to three studios, helping to build recognition and trust in the community.
The result was a bold, recognisable identity that visually “dances” — and one that has proven adaptable and enduring as the business has grown.
