Preserving Motorsport Heritage Through Modern Digital Design

Alan Mann Racing is a legendary name in British motorsport, renowned for running Ford’s European works team throughout the 1960s. Known for iconic liveries and championship-winning cars, the brand continues to honour its legacy through restorations, engineering excellence, and public appearances at prestigious motorsport events around the world.

My Role | Digital Designer – UX/UI, Prototyping & Front-End Development

As the main designer on this project, I was tasked with modernising an outdated e-commerce site that had originally been built on a basic Shopify template. The legacy design failed to reflect the prestige, history, and quality associated with the Alan Mann Racing name.

I carried out a full UX and UI audit, delivering an in-depth recommendations report (via Miro) to demonstrate where performance, clarity, and visual hierarchy could be improved. From there, I implemented a full redesign and rebuild in WordPress with a focus on:

Brand storytelling through design – clean, image-led layouts and custom typography to reflect racing heritage.

User experience optimisation – simplified navigation, responsive across all devices.

Performance enhancements – lightweight theme and optimised assets for faster load times.

SEO best practices – proper HTML structure, meta descriptions, image alt tags, and schema markup.

The result is a visually striking and functionally robust digital platform that celebrates Alan Mann Racing’s rich heritage while providing a smoother shopping and browsing experience for a modern audience.
